Depth of field issue with oculus and Microsoft HoloLens (Achieving natural depth of field)

Two issues with making Oculus and Microsoft Hololens render a seamless true immersive experience is rendering in real-time a 4K visual experience and the very tricky problem of rendering in real-time the correct depth of field based on what the eyes are focusing on.  A rendered experience will look fake if everything is rendered in focus or if the wrong focus is rendered on objects that you are looking at.

Here are some interesting articles that touch on this issue....

Theory of Makeup - Why Contrast Matters - Harvard psychologist Richard Russell's experiment

" One of the most basic and informative aspects of social perception is judging whether someone is male or female. In 2009, Harvard psychologist Richard Russell published an experiment in which he showed volunteers pictures of the same face that varied only in the level of visual contrast of the eyes and lips compared with the rest of the face. It turns out that faces with more contrast look more female than do faces with less contrast:" link

In a vast disc of dust and gas, dark rings are clearly visible: gaps in the cloud, swept clear by brand new planets in orbit.

The sun-like star at the centre, HL Tau, is less than a million years old and is 450 light years from Earth in the constellation Taurus." link

Photo exactly confirms computer models of how planets forms.
