Google Goggles for Android lets you cheat at Sudoku - Mobile AR to explode in late 2011

Most sports viewers are already used to AR without out ever realizing it.  Those yellow "first down" lines seen in FOX and NBC etc broadcasts of NFL Football games using the 1st & Ten system, and the colored trail showing location and direction of the puck in TV broadcasts of ice hockey games.

Shown above is a fantastic though somewhat useless example of an augmented reality application... soon you will be holding your phone up to solve math equation problems, trivia questions and cross word puzzles...  imagine mobile Google street views integrated into AR with live advertising and live RSS feeds displayed on the storefront windows...

Microsoft already has some interesting examples of live video augmented with content.

QR codes for years (i.e. japan) have been used for pushing content to static objects and we are now seeing Google and MS presenting a beachhead here... Nice collection of mobile AR examples

Just as location services are hot,  towards the end of this year or early 2012 we will see an explosion of mobile AR Photo recognition applications..  cnet
