media buying on social advertising is exploding

US maketers will spend $3.08 billion to advertise on social networking sites
this year, eMarketer predicts. Spending will be up 55% over the $1.99 billion
advertisers devoted to social networks in 2010 and will rise by a further 27.7%
next year to reach nearly $4 billion.

Facebook is clearly driving this increase in ad spend...

With absolute price transparency via taking photos with your phone of the product or item (i.e. bar-code or product code) your interested at the store.  You have instant price transparency and now have to make real-time decisions if the price difference is largest enough to delay purchase and walk out the store empty handed..

Though many think this will be the demise of physical stores. Seems they have been predicting sales to decrease at bestbuy for awhile...  There's a lot to say about instant gratification even when it costs you more....  No one will be walking out of BestBuy and missing the Super Bowl because they could have saved a hundred dollars from some online store and have the TV delivered a week after the game has ended ...
