The iPhone 4 is now Flickr’s most popular camera

World's thinnest smartphone?

Japanese mobile network operator NTT Docomo has unveiled three new handsets for its service, one of which it claims is the world’s thinnest 3G smartphone.
The three new available phones are the NEC Medias N-04C, the Sony Xperia SO-01C, and the Optimus Pad L-06C. It’s the Medias we are interested in here, though.  At 7.7mm thick or stall we say thin. Compared to the now thick iPhone 4 at 9.3mm thick making the Medias roughly 18% thinner. Plus a 4″ display (480 x 854 resolution) and only weighs 105 grams (iPhone 4 is 137 grams)...

And speaking of thin... Asus has unveiled the U36 which is being marketed as the world’s thinnest notebook to use a standard Intel i5 processor.  Till now ultra-thin notebooks have used low voltage processors to allow for a decent battery life. Somehow using a standard i5 CPU, Asus claims that their new notebook has 11 hours of battery life.

The laptop weighs 1.44kgs and is made of 19mm thick lightweight magnesium alloy with a nanometer coating which helps the notebook repel dirt, water and fingerprints.

The demonstration was put on by researchers at Cognition for Technical Systems, an incubator associated with the Technical University of Münich.

Ghosts of 1997 in Bangkok...

My first time in Thailand was in 2001 when I was working for a British company which was about to spend a $1 billion starting a new wireless telecom.  Interesting time since it was only a few years after the Asian financial collapse.  Thailand, especially Bangkok, was hit hard by the Asian Financial Crisis. Thai Baht collapsed in 1997. Today, through out the city there are ghost skyscrapers that scar the city...  Here's an interesting video of some travelers exploring one of those buildings...  Interesting  since there were so many abandon buildings there was a return of malaria in the city due to all the water forming in the basements of these buildings...

Faye Wong 2046

When I was staying in Shanghai, I must have acquired at least five different bootleg versions of this movie... Seems everytime the editor and director finished a version a raw DVD cut would end up on the streets of Shanghai... Now I don't even know which version was the actual released version.

Mans most distance and loneliest objects...

The Sun is close to 93 million miles (150 million km) away from us.   NASA's Voyager 1 and 2, two spacecraft that left Earth in the 1970s, are exiting the solar system are 9 billion miles away at the edge of our solar system -- in other words they are almost 97 times further away than than the distance from the earth to the sun....

Antimatter Atoms Trapped for More Than 15 Minutes CERN physicists

In a study published online June 5 in Nature Physics, the ALPHA group reports having confined antihydrogen for 16 minutes and 40 seconds.  more

Someone had a posted a great question... "Perhaps the most basic question about antimatter that has not yet been definitively determined is how it interacts gravitationally with other antimatter and with matter. While the overwhelming consensus is that there should be no different in the gravitational effects of matter and antimatter it has been difficult to establish - perhaps the persistence achieved here can enable it to be finally established."

Amazing evening photos of the recent volcano in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle June 5 2011

Saturday June 5th, a volcano in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle chain of south-central Chile erupted after lying dormant for more than 50 years. Puyehue threw ash more than 6 miles (10 km) into the sky, pushing the plume toward neighboring Argentina.

Market gets creamed by Greece and Obama not being able to create Jobs

Nokia [NOK  6.70    -0.32  (-4.56%)   ] declined for a second day to a 13-year low after at least eight brokerages cut their price target on the stock. The mobile phone handset maker cut its sales outlook Tuesday and said it expects sales from its products and services to be far worse than initial projections.  Nokia is sinking so fast, I hope it manages to release some killer windows based phones soon...
Research In Motion [RIMM  40.44    -2.41  (-5.62%)   ] also slipped amid worries the Blackberry maker could be in a similar situation. Another device that is sinking...
Juniper [JNPR  33.40    -3.21  (-8.77%)   ] plunged after the CEO said the firm may see a negative impact from the Japanese earthquake.
