For years I have used drive space like a Pixar render farm... Starting years ago as a timeline designer and coder at AVID... back when it was costing me something like $3K for 10K spin Cheetah SSCII drives for 250meg storage...
At last count I had 50 external drives before I donate 30 of them to Salvation Army (ok not sure who is shopping there for old high speed SSCII drives) but it felt nice to unload lots of metal that I will never use again... Getting back to the whole reason of this posting... Shopping yesterday at good old Best Buy I picked up a pocket size 1TB drive for $89 and an external USB 3.0 3TB for $129... like $40 per TB... simply amazing... Now Have have to find time to consolidate my other drives onto a few 3TB drives..
Can't wait when my phones will have multi TB local storage...

For hard disk drives to become obsolete, replacement is required. Technical spinners are far from changing anytime soon. They lack the storage capacity that users so desperately need.
