Uber's secret plan to take over the tranportation world
When Uber, the limousine and taxi-fetching app company, was valued on at $18.2 billion, a common thought among rational investors was "Another over valued and over hyped startup" One would think hey they don't even own a car. But that's genius, UBER does not have to buy cars, maintain them, buy gas or tires or wash them...
Here's a great article on the evaluation
http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/06/09/how-uber-pulls-in-billions-all-via-iphone/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0
But UBER's long term vision is much more than just expanding to other cities... It's imagining a world in 5 or 10 years where half the UBER cars are self driving cars based on a Google like self driving technology. Something like the original Total Recall vision of the taxi. But this vision of of a fully automated fleet is a radically different business model. It's more like an AVIS or Car Rental agency by actually owing the cars and having an infrastructure of having automated cars refuel be it gas or electric without a driver. Nice vision and many new businesses could be built around the future vision...

Google - Please Fix your annoying bugs in your latest release of Google maps on the mobile.
Google - Please Fix your annoying bugs in your latest release of Google maps on the mobile. First is depending in what scale you are viewing the maps, subways stations appear and then disappear. This is hugely annoying when you are living in NYC. I love agile releases of software too but one would think a little testing should go on before pushing code live Another bug is when asking for general retail locations such as Thai, or Wine bars, Post Office many times the query results in returning locations one mile north of where I am... Plus it's not like I am using an iPhone, a little testing on the NOTE 3 would help.

Nate Silver the brilliant mathematician and stats guy, who made his fame predicting elections and sports games..
But ended up with his worst prediction ever... Silver’s website argued that the Brazilian soccer team is most likely to win the World Cup, with a remarkable 38% chance of doing so.
That is nearly three times the chance fivethirtyeight.com gives to the second-favorite team, Argentina.

Nico Rosberg grabs lunch in the cockpit of his Mercedes in Silverstone testing. Nico leads in points. Though I don't recall our drivers eating in the car when Orange owned an F1 team.
Great Article on the future of music and album sales.
"There are a few things I have witnessed becoming obsolete in the past few years, the first being autographs. I haven't been asked for an autograph since the invention of the iPhone with a front-facing camera. The only memento "kids these days" want is a selfie. It's part of the new currency, which seems to be "how many followers you have on Instagram"
"A friend of mine, who is an actress, told me that when the casting for her recent movie came down to two actresses, the casting director chose the actress with more Twitter followers. I see this becoming a trend in the music industry. For me, this dates back to 2005 when I walked into my first record-label meetings, explaining to them that I had been communicating directly with my fans on this new site called Myspace. In the future, artists will get record deals because they have fans—not the other way around."

Fascinating article on how a strand of 280 amino acids carrying little more than simple instructions is more terrifying than any horror movie
Fascinating article on how a strand of 280 amino acids carrying little more than simple instructions is more terrifying than any horror movie. By stealthy liquefying the body from inside, no treatment, no vaccine and no idea where it hides between outbreaks. Better known as Ebola.
